Quit Leaving Already
Ok then...mini rant going on here...followed by a small amount of showing off! Hopefully lessons may be learned.
All "55" builds...look away now because I'm sure you'll say "I soloed that"...frankly, it's not going to dampen my spirits one bit...and I don't really care.
If you don't want to read the rant please at least read the moral of the tale in bold at the bottom.
So, my rant is this:
WHY WHY WHY when a monk leaves in a mission does everyone else think "we're doomed...I'm off". Why do you all think that? If you have 2 healers...which, let's be honest, in an 8-man group you usually do, if one leaves then, to my calculation anyway, there is still one monk left. If I was the remaining monk, I would be really insulted, frankly. Perhaps, the only occaison when it may be worth restarting would be if you were going for masters...but if you're just trying to get through the mission, like so many are, then just KEEP GOING.
The mission which triggered this rant was Aborstone last night. Now, I generally have no problem with Aborstone...this time I decided to try a new water magic build with my Elementalist to see how it worked. Please note this is not a rant about Aborstone, since personally I quite like it. We begin the mission with 2 monks...one was a reliable alliance member, the other was a random monk. So we start the mission and a few minutes in the monk leaves. The responses went something like "oh ****"..."OMG, he left"..."****". The necro, who also happened to be an MM then decided to leave, leaving us to kill off all his minions...thoughtful that. As Danika opens her first door everyone else, other than me, the alliance monk and the other alliance member we were helping, left.
WHY, OH WHY, do you all leave...it is more than doable with 7, even 6 players. So, this ends the rant.
After 5 members of the group left leaving us three alliance members the only ones still playing we decided, mad as it seemed at the time, to continue on. The characters were me as my ele, a monk, and a spirit-spamming rit. We easily cleared the chamber, picked up the urn, and cleared it again. We fought out way through, slowly, but successfully, through to the last room. The Stone Judge did take a liking to me a little too much and I died twice...being ressed fairly quickly. We finished the mission in 1 hour and 11 minutes. I ask you - if all you wanted to do was get through the mission, what is so wrong with that? and if we had the other 3 or 4 people with us it would have been prefectly fine.
Moral of the Story: If one person leaves a mission is not over, finished, and certainly can be done...as has been proved. Screw the monk...if they want to leave because they think it will mess up a group don't let them...keep going. If you think "screw you monks...we don't need you" maybe they'll stop doing it. I hate these preconceived ideas that you have to have 2 monks per party. It's utterly rediculous.
If anyone wants to comment...please bear in mind:
1. This is not a thread for people to rant about the difficulty of Aborstone.
2. This is not a thread for people to rant about monks...that is here
EDIT: Corrected Spelling
EDIT: To avoid confusion, my original rant was not about monks, it was about people leaving a group when there is no reason to. Just so happened it was a monk that left...and I assume everyone else did because the monk left

Personally I was glad they left it meant I had less people to keep alive
But it was quiet insulting when they kept saying we'd fall blah blah, i'm not the greatest monk in the world I know that (I actually hate monking and only said i'd do it since none were about). They could of at least given it a decent go instead of throwing there toys out of the pram. God loves a trier.
I've been playing in Tyria a lot lately and done most missions before the Crystal Desert monkless, people rely on monks far to much, i've also MM'd my way through TahnnakaiTemple monkless it wasn't easy but it is prefectly do-able.

While I do see you point about what you have posted, that the loss of one monk is not the end of the world. However some missions do require having two monks available.
Now I'm closing this thread, Not because I disagree with you, but mainly to the fact this is a rant, how small it may be.
It doesn't really have any purpose other to to sort of complain about something.
This is only going to become a flame fest. Sorry.
